Roadworks along Hospital Bend
16 January 2025
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise members of the public of intended road resurfacing along both carriageways of Hospital Bend, including inbound and outbound ramps on the southern side of Philip Kgosana Drive (M5). The work starts today, 16 January 2025 and will continue until Thursday, 6 March 2025, between 19:00 and 05:00, Monday to Saturday, weather permitting. Some work might be done on Sundays as well.
‘This resurfacing project includes the rehabilitation of several road segments along Philip Kgosana Drive, both inbound and outbound. Additional affected routes will include the N2 outbound to the M3, the M3 outbound to Anzio Road, and the M3 to the N2 inbound. Resurfacing will also take place along Rhodes Drive inbound towards Cape Town and on both the inbound and outbound routes to the N2. Please exercise caution and patience during the course of this important maintenance work that aims to keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The project entails:
• The milling and removal of existing surface layers followed by resurfacing of roads.
• The construction of new catch pits and manholes.
• Additionally, new kerbs and channels will be installed along the various roads in the area, and new road studs will be fitted.
• Minor stormwater drainage work will also be carried out by extending the capacity of catch pits.
• Damaged guardrails along the outbound and inbound carriageways will be replaced as well.
Once the resurfacing is complete, the team will finish the project by reinstating road markings and carrying out any ancillary works.
